Addiction & Sobriety Counseling in Hermosa Beach

Man struggling with his drinking

Getting sober is one problem.

Staying sober and building a life you don't want to escape from is another.

I work with men at all stages: whether you're thinking about cutting back, you just quit, or you've been sober a while and something still feels missing.

I know this from both sides.

I'm in long-term recovery myself, and I spent years in AA. I'm AA-friendly but not AA-dependent. If the program works for you, great. If it doesn't, there are other ways, and your sobriety is your own.

What we work on

  • Reducing, stopping, or just looking honestly at your relationship with alcohol or other substances

  • Early sobriety: social situations, cravings, and the "now what?" feeling

  • What the drinking or using was managing, avoiding, or numbing

  • The anger, shame, and relationship problems that tend to surface once you stop

  • Long-term sobriety and finding meaning, including spirituality

Therapy and a program can work together

A therapist isn't a sponsor. I won't replace your meetings or the people supporting you there. I help you understand what's underneath the drinking or using and build ways to live differently, alongside whatever support you already have.

What to expect

We start with a free 20-minute consultation to talk about where you are and whether we're a good fit. There's no requirement to call yourself an alcoholic, and no requirement to commit to never drinking again. We start with what's true for you today.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to be sober to start therapy?

No. You can come in still drinking or using. If you drink heavily every day, talk to a doctor before you stop, because alcohol withdrawal can be dangerous.

Do I have to go to AA?

No. I'm happy to support you in AA, and I'm just as happy to help you find another path if it isn't for you.

Do you work with substances other than alcohol?

Yes. I work with men dealing with alcohol, drugs, and other habits that have started to run — and ruin — their lives.
